Day 3 Stop Drinking with your Meals. Day 4. Be aware of what is in your Water

Done.

Day 4.Be Aware of what is in your Water.

This is a very good point. My whole family got sick when we moved into our new home nine years ago. I thought it was the flu but two of the kids were sick, really sick with a parasite. It took a long time to figure out what was going on and it was extremely painful for them, and for me to watch helplessly. Now we purchase our water filtered with reverse Osmosis. This is a reminder to know what is in the water I buy for drinking. I need to review what is in our well water as well. The FOODBABE recommends a shower filter. I am sure this is not in our budget but I will take the time to look into what is available and what is in our water.

DAy 2. Lean Green Drinking Machine

Day 2 Be a Lean Green Drinking Machine

images-11

I drank my morning lemon water. It felt really warm and soothing this morning!

I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I also drank my green Smoothie.

I was feeling under the weather this morning and moving slowly. I had to push myself to yoga and I took it pretty easy today. I think my body is trying to fight the colds and flus that have been going around at home and at work. I didn’t drink my green smoothie until about noon which is a little later than usual.

Vani, aka the FOODBABE, has some green drink recipes on her website. Today I drank her Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie. Last week I made a big batch of her Hari shake. I also like to, on mornings when I don’t have to rush off make a fresh green juice. There are so many delicious recipes for smoothies, juices, meals, and desserts on this website.

The truth is however that even though I have followed the program through day 2 I am not a lean green drinking Machine. I appreciate these recipes and I am glad I drank my green drink. The drink and a salad are the only vegetables I’ve had today; that and a slice of apple. I returned home from work with an appetite and fatigue. I haven’t any beans or salad fixings prepared and the only thing I am craving at the moment is a hotdog and chips with a glass of chocolate milk. Seriously, and I am not even feeling well. This is my weakness, I spend time and money filling our pantry with ingredients for healthy recipes and then I am too tired or unorganized to cook and my kids and I eat comfort foods that are quick and familiar to me. At this moment all my ideals for healthy nontoxic food that is sustainably raised goes by the wayside.

Tomorrow is a new day.

On another note I learned from Food Integrity Now that a mother from the group called Moms Across America was allowed to attend a Monsanto Board meeting. Also if we buy organics for our families we can make a real shift in the economics of agriculture. I feel for the first time in a long time that possibly just possibly the people can feel empowered enough to effect change and begin to feel united. I am grateful for these groups, and for Vani Hari, author of The FOODBABE WAY.

Possibly we can get back to real food, real people, and community.

A New Day 1!

FoodBabe_ShareableGraphics_Draft 8.pdf

Day 1 is easy.

I just needed to start my day with lemon water. Now I tried this drink in the past and didn’t like it, so this time I paid close attention to the directions. I didn’t use too much lemon or cayenne and I didn’t make the drink too hot. Today I found it very palatable and an easy thing to do each morning. I did set every thing up: the lemon, knife, cutting board, measuring cup, and pot the night before to make it very easy for me first thing in the morning. Yes, that’s 5:30 a.m. for a 6:00 yoga class. If you want to try it here’s the link:

Let me know what you think. I will continue drinking lemon water for 21 days to see if I notice any changes.

As of today I weigh 167lbs.

My energy level seems fine first thing most mornings. I do however have 1-2 12 oz. cups of coffee with cream and sugar after yoga, which is a lot of sugar to start the day. I did drink a vegetable juice this morning, which means I am actually ahead of day 2. By mid afternoon I generally feel low in’ energy, and am definitely looking for a sweet fix.

Anybody want to try this with Me?

I would love to hear from you.

XOXO

My New Book Arrived! The Food Babe Way

FoodBabe_ShareableGraphics_Draft 5.pdf

I was very excited to receive a brown package…It’s my new book: The FOODBABE WAY. Although it mentions a 21 day plan right on the cover, I did not envision the book to be set up to create lifestyle changes in 21 days. (?..sometimes I just don’t think things through!)

The FOODBABE WAY has one change to make each day for 21 days…..SOoooooo; Whynot?! I think I will try to follow the 21 day plan and blog about it. I hope those of you that are not interested can ignore my posts and not feel pestered or bothered by them. I am very unattuned to how my internet ramblings may or most likely may not affect whom. Those of you who are interested please follow my blog by clicking on the tab “follow” in the upper left hand header.

I am interested in doing this for my own health, to make the extra effort to stay away from processed foods, to kick my sugar habit, to find new recipes my family might enjoy with me, to lose a few pounds, and to politically align with others in support of those companies that agree with my/?our standards regarding no toxins, no GMO’s, and no factory farming.

So tomorrow starts a new Day 1 and I will begin my day with a new habit:

Lemon water and Cayenne Pepper

Anyone interested in trying it with me? Could be fun….Thanks for reading and/or following my blog! Feel free to join in and to comment.

What’s for Dinner?

images-9

OK! The soup was a hit! It was gone before lunch the next day which is a very good sign.

I was given a $50.00 gift card for Safeway for Christmas so I stopped by after work to find something for dinner. It was after 7:00p.m., and I was shopping hungry!

I haven’t been in Safeway for a long time  and headed straight to the organic vegetables and I was pleasantly surprised to see they had expanded their organics!

After purchasing fruit and veggies I had about $12.00 left for something filling that would please most everybody….Frozen Fish? looked good, says it’s sustainably caught but didn’t offer any real information….?…really tempted to buy my youngest the chicken nuggets she likes but those are most definitely abused birds..vote with your dollar..really tempted to by those flakey looking breakfast pastries for the morning…MMmmmm! don’t those look good! “There’s about a hundred ingredients..don’t even think about it”…I ended up with Amy’s Organic Pizza. Healthy? Filling! Fast! Easy!

What did you have for dinner?

Day 1

The Mexican Lentil tortilla Soup recipe turned out great. It was only supposed to take about 10 minutes prep time and although the recipe was easy I felt as if I was cooking all day because I needed to stop and get some of the ingredients: celery +.. and although I had checked that I had the ingredients ahead of time I assumed I had carrots….wrong; so, another trip to the store. Same thing happened when I made the Goji berry chocolate drops.  I had purchased almonds for the recipe this week but they were eaten before I could make the recipe. There I am with my melted chocolate and no almonds…uggghh,No!  I didn’t really give in and use the not as fresh almonds I had on hand. Big mistake! What a waste of beautiful chocolate and goji berries!!!! They are o.k. But they could be so much better!!!

  • Here it goes I am starting my first ever blog. My new year’s resolution is to have fun and my blog is my 30 day commitment to make some incremental lifestyle changes with the support of the FOOD BABE, Vani Hari, and her new book coming out in February that I am really looking forward to: THE FOOD BABE WAY. I will blog periodically throughout the week for the next 30 days

What I like about the FOOD BABE website: http://foodbabe.com/ is that it has delicious recipes. Vani also shares ideas from her vast experience in formulating a healthy lifestyle. She investigates and keeps us informed of the ingredients of common processed foods that we eat and she/we hold corporations accountable to us, the consumers, living breathing human beings that want simple, healthy, nontoxic, food free of pesticides, gmo’s, additives, and animal cruelty. Food that is grown sustainably.

I want to get back to basics in a very complex society.

My objectives are to try more recipes, be more informed, and develop more lifestyle eating habits that will benefit my family and myself. We are a family of six. If you look in my cupboards you will see some processed foods. Old habits are hard to break, and I am not the only person in the household with opinions regarding our food choices.

My favorite recipes from the FOOD BABE thus far are

for breakfast: Quinoa Veggie Scramble and the Hari Shake. In summer I loved the Cup of Gazpacho, and I tried most all Vani’s Thanksgiving recipes and created a fabulous Thanksgiving meal. I fell absolutely in love with and still make regularly the Stuffed Wild Mushrooms and the Kale Cranberry Walnut Salad with Mint Orange Vinaigrette.

Ok. Lifestyle changes I hope to make:

Lemon water in the morning? I am very fond of a squeezed lemon in the morning with sugar…with cayenne? Not to sure.

More greens…I need a blender for smoothies. We wore out our Nutribullet.

Cook More. Shop more. Be more informed.

Loosing 10 lbs. would be a bonus! tho it’s not my main objective

Weaknesses: Sugar, Caffeine, time, budget constraints

I will be trying recipes and suggestions from the FOOD BABE blog, and the monthly eating guide until I receive the book.

I ordered an extra copy of the book if (once I get it) anyone local wants to borrow it and try this with me.

Thanks for reading and sharing.
